Faces, Places, Races #2:
Drag Cars & Motorcycles - Seattle & Beyond
Seattle International Raceway (SIR) was and is a hot spot for drag racing. Bright colors, smoke and speed take over the track. From 1997 to 2009, Jeff Dykes was the official track photographer for SIR / Pacific Raceways (renamed in 2002). He captured hundreds of drag cars, motorcycles and racers, both on and off the track.
Many of the photos in the Dykes Drag Racing Photo Collection (WOS#5076) cover racing on Pacific Northwest race tracks (SIR and Bremerton Raceway) but there are also photos from all over the US, from Old Bridge Township to Atlanta and Indianapolis, as well as other countries (Bandimere and Sanair in Quebec; and Santa Pod and Avon Park Raceway in the UK). Photos also cover road racing, speed boats, and tractor pulls. The Dykes photo collections includes over 14,600 photo prints which have been cataloged by WOS Archive volunteers. Only a small sample is below. Some have identifiable information but many do not.

Help us identify content in these photos and preserve the history, culture and technology of motorsports. Add details with our easy type-n-submit format or simply scroll and check out these great photos.
The World of Speed Archive receives many donated photos. While some may include partial information, many do not include names, locations and/or dates. With the help of viewers near and far, we hope to be able to add context to these images, identify the many faces and places of the Northwest racing, and preserve the stories that these images capture. So scroll the images and if anything or anyone looks familiar, add your knowledge into the submission forms and we will add it to the image captions here and into our collection catalog.
