Local Faces, Local Races — Salem's Hollywood Bowl, 1950
Salem’s Hollywood Bowl, like many local tracks across the country and the world, brought amateur racers to the track, forging friendships along the way. Some names would become more well-known over the years. Some became lifelong friends. Some, a hard pulled memory. Each of these racers are responsible for the ever-evolving world of racing, and examples of racing during the 1950s in the Pacific Northwest.
Luckily this small collection of donated photos came with the names of the people in the photos including Jack Greiner, Randy Francis, Wild Bill Hyde, Len Sutton, Howard Osborne, Ernie Koch, and Max Hunn. The World of Speed Archive receives hundreds of photos without information such as names, places or dates. If you’ve raced in the Pacific Northwest, we’d appreciate your help in putting some names to the many faces, places and races.
