Digitized Lions Drag Strip Films Bring Racing Back to Life

World of Speed Archive has just released the first round of the Nakamura Digitized Film Collection online through our Archive Catalog.

Digitized films of racers such as Atts Ono, Gary Cagle, Leonard Harris, Tommy Ivo, and Don Garlits are caught on these home films at Lions Drag Strip. Covering 1958-1660, these films also include shots of crowds in bleachers, push cars, race preparation, close ups of engines, qualifying rounds, gag starts, a mini moto, and the iconic entrance sign. Take a look at Lions in action at its prime which was open from 1955 to 1972.

The full Nakamura Digitized Film Collection is available for viewing onsite in the Archive Room but keep checking out the Archive catalog as more digitized films are uploaded over the coming months. The full collection includes clips of Riverside, Bakersfield, and Long Beach Marine Stadium, as well as racers Mickey Thompson (Lions' manager), Lefty Mudersbach, Kenny Lindley, Chuck Potvin, Chrisman, Art Malone, Doug Cook, KS Pittman, Bobby Langley, and others.
